Castle Season 4 Episode 20 “The Limey” Recap

A murderer on the loose, tension between Kate and Rick, plus the return of playboy Castle…seems like it is old times on this new episode of Castle.

The show beings with a man rummaging through a motel room frantically searching for something so much so that he is seemingly unaffected by the dead body of a woman that is lying on the floor across him. The unknown man finally gives up his search on the room and decides to turn his attention on the dead body. He starts with the usually places, pockets, the purse, but then starts inspecting the lining of the dead woman’s jacket. He scrambles to find something as he hears the jiggling of the handle and it seems like he does, but before he leaves to make his escape he plants a kiss on the dead woman’s cheek. As the door opens, the unknown man leaves pushing his way past the house keeper to the parking lot, leaving only the sounds of the cleaning woman discovering the dead body in his wake.

The next scene is of a girls’ night in with Lanie and Kate, more specifically, Kate discussing Castle’s odd behavior. Lanie suggest that Kate might have waited too long to make a move, but Kate states that she didn’t want to ruin what they have. Lanie questions Kate and asks what they have, because whatever it is, it’s more than friendship. At that moment, Kate and Lanie both receive calls on the apparent homicide and head on over to the motel. As they walk up to the crime scene, Kate tells Lanie that she is going to tell Castle about her feeling, but as the words come out of her mouth, Castle drives up the scene in his red Ferrari with a buxom blonde sitting beside him. Castle hands the keys to the car and she is off, leaving Castle to encounter a very perplexed Beckett. Castle informs Beckett of his impromptu Vegas late night trip over the weekend where he might beautiful flight attendant friend. This irks and confuses Kate since playboy Castle hasn’t been seen for quite awhile and to make matters worse it seems like Castle thinks nothing of it.

Focusing on the task at hand, both Beckett and Castle review the crime scene. According to identification, the victim’s name is Naomi Allen, a British National that checked into the motel two hours earlier before her death. According the Esposito, no cash or valuables are missing and Lanie reports that mostly like the victim was strangled, but evidence suggest that Naomi fought back. So far a possible one night stand seems to be likelihood of what happened, but when Ryan informs that Naomi was a model with an apartment in Manhattan- their theory goes out the window. Beckett and Castle go the agency that handles Naomi’s bookings to speak with Naomi’s agent. Her agent says that Naomi was a great model, but lately Naomi had been requesting some abnormal bookings such as parties and dinner dates, suspecting the manager to believe that Naomi was making herself into an escort.

Beckett and Castle head back to precinct where the two hash out theories, but the usual harmonized pair is out of synched so much so that even Castle comments on it, leaving a bewildered Beckett to wonder why Castle doesn’t seem to upset about it. Before Beckett can comment, Ryan let’s know the pair that sketch provided by the cleaning woman at the motel matched the description of a man a neighbor of Naomi’s say leaving the girl’s apartment. Thanks to a credit card the unknown man was using to purchase alcohol, the team has an address to where the many is staying. Beckett and Castle go hotel room the man is staying and bust in only to find their suspect wrapped in a towel. Beckett tells him to hold up his hands; reluctantly the man does so, leaving his towel to fall to the ground and him reaching for a badge identifying himself as Detective Inspector Colin Hunt, Scotland Yard.

Beckett and Castle question Colin about his apparently involvement in a crime. Colin explains that Naomi was like a sister to him, that when is partner died and promised to look after her. Furthermore, he explains that he received a call from a frightened Naomi asking for help. He flew over to help her, only instead to find her dead instead. He does however mention that Naomi left a secret message in the lining of her coat, as it was hidden place that she usually kept her pepper spray in. Kate asks to see the message, but Colin will only agree is he is let on aboard with the investigation. Kate agrees rather quickly, which surprise Castle, but it needs to be improved by their captain. Castle gives Colin a heads up on Captain Gates’ tough as nails attitude towards outsiders, but when Beckett informs them that authorization has been granted, Castle suspects that the only attitude that Gates’ has is solely directed at himself.

Colin hands over the message left by Naomi- a key to a locker. Where does it go to…Colin has no idea- but whatever the key leads to, it was important enough for Naomi to have hidden it. Ryan decides to take over this task and starts searching for the missing locker, as for Esposito, he briefs everyone else on a scuffle that Naomi had a few days earlier at a club with rapper Nicky J. With a possible lead Beckett suggest that they bring in Nicky J for questioning, but Castle with his new attitude decides to leave this to the experts to go on a lunch date with his flight attendant “friend.” Kate is astonished at Castle’s lack of interest and involvement, but tries to downplay her emotions not wanting to get noticed. She and Colin interrogate Nicky J, who explains that Naomi was trying to steal her man. Supposedly, Naomi was all over him and was even putting her phone number into his phone when she saw them together. Nicky J says that she was pissed, but all she did was get Naomi kicked out of the club nothing more. Beckett and Colin confirm this with Nicky J’s boyfriend Biggy Slim. He says that Naomi was chatting him up that night, but he says that she paranoid. He says that he remembers Naomi mentioning that she felt like she was being followed.

With this new line of information, Beckett and Colin head down to the M.E.’s Office to talk to Lanie. Lanie informs the two that whoever killed Naomi had to be a strong man, because when he strangled her to death he also crushed her larynx. However, due to Naomi’s facial cream, Lanie was able to find a partial print, but so far the print has had no matches in the system. Lanie does however state that when the pair finds a suspect she can match the suspect’s prints to the partial in order to get conclusive results, but it will only work if they can find a suspect. Not liking the news, Colin steps out of the morgue for a bit of fresh air. When Kate goes to check on him, he explains the Naomi would never get mixed up in anything devious. She was a good girl who was still fragile over the death of her boyfriend was a doctor trying to help people in Uganda. Beckett tries to explain that people change, but Colin isn’t believing any of it. Beckett receives a call from Ryan who informs them that Naomi bought a day pass to a local gym and was there for a grand total of three minutes according to the owner. Beckett and Colin both believe it is just the right amount of time of Naomi to stash something. They head on over and the key fights in perfectly and inside is a number, but more importantly on the backside is a photo of that Naomi left of her suspected killer.

When Castles returns to the precinct from his lunch date he is surprised to see how far along the case is. Kate makes a comment about “enjoying his lunch special,” but quickly diverges from the conversation to the photo. So far no luck with deciphering the numbers, but the photo does provide them with some new leads. After identifying the British Seal in the background, the team is able to find the name of their suspected killer, Nigel Wyndham- a British National working at the British Consulate that has some bad business opportunities in the past including was suspected to have played a role in the death of a college girl whilst on vacation. Esposito and Ryan do find evidence that Naomi and Nigel went to dinner and she was thrown out of his office one day after employees heard the two getting into an argument. Castle theorizes the two were in a lover’s quarrel, but Colin adamantly states the Naomi wasn’t that type of person. Captain Gates’ states that maybe the case, but so far Nigel is their only lead, furthermore with him having diplomatic immunity there is no way they can touch him. Gates’ explains that if they have substantial proof that Nigel is their guy, then she will calls it in, but since they don’t her hands are tied.

This leaves the team to come up with ideas to try to find a way not only to get in proximity of Nigel, but also to try to find a way to get his fingerprints to have Lanie match it with their partial. This leads Castle to walk in and show his plans to get the evidence they need to Ryan and Esposito that contains Ryan holding flowers, Esposito dressed as a bum and Castle propelling down a side of a building. This gets a few weird looks from Ryan and Esposito, but their conversation is interrupted by a dashing Colin dressed up in a tuxedo looking for Kate, who appears in a stunning evening gown. The two are on their way as guest (thanks to Colin) to a party being thrown at the consulate with the hope of retrieving Nigel’s prints to connect him to Naomi’s murder. Colin and Kate leave looking quite the pair with a longing Castle looking after.

At the consulate, Kate and Colin try to blend in going so far as dancing. Colin starts to put the moves on Kate, but it quickly comes to an end when Kate spots Nigel. Seeing an opening to put their plan into action, Kate goes over to Nigel who is by the bar alone drinking. The plan is to retrieve the glass with Nigel prints, but no matter how hard Kate tries to flirt, the man won’t leave his glass alone. So Kate gets Nigel to dance with her, but even then he brings the glass with him. Unfortunately at this time, Colin has been found out that he is not who he says he is, so he signals Kate to get a move on, but still nothing so instead she distracts him long enough to steal his cigarette case before she and Colin are thrown out of the party. With the case the two head back to the station with hopes of having a match, but when Lanie reports back some time later with the bad news that Nigel is not their guy the team is crushed. That is when Castle comes in saying that they have been focusing on the wrong piece of evidence. With the help of his flight attendant girlfriend he was able to identify the numbers on the back of the photo. To say that Kate is pissed about Beckett showing evidence to his girlfriend is putting it mildly, but in his defense, Castle explains it was only a picture of the evidence.

Castle explains that the numbers belong to a diplomatic pouch that is used by various businesses, consulates to send items overseas. The numbers correspond not only to the package, but to the destination the package’s are to be sent and according to Esposito similar packages with the same number have been shipped all year long to Uganda and according to records there is still one package left at the JFK storage unit. Colin goes undercover as “Agent Bauer” to find the package which so happens to be missiles. This leaves the team to understand that Naomi wasn’t having an affair, but investigating the death of her late boyfriend whose helicopter was shot down with missiles in Uganda. There was suspicious around her boyfriend’s death as the guerilla soldiers somehow came into possession of his location. Naomi must have overheard something about Uganda and missiles at one of the parties she was attending and started investigating on her own. The thing is that if it wasn’t Nigel wasn’t the one to kill her he must have had a partner. Castle having the bright idea that Nigel must have a partner and to cross check the guest list, leads them to Palo Macguzzi a Uganda official. With this lead, this leaves Beckett and Colin back to Biggie Slim. Biggie is brought back for questioning where Beckett and Colin and inform him that they know everything, how he was once a business man with an UK music sharing site that was being investigated by the British government and how a lobbyist who so happens to Nigel Wyndham vouched for him. Also, how his cousin is in the service and has access to missiles that he Biggie was helping ship overseas to Uganda. Biggie finally admits the truth that it was him who killed Naomi all to try to cover his hide and keeping making money.

In the end, Colin and Beckett are able to arrest Nigel thanks to Biggie’s confession. Back at the station Nigel is getting ready to head back to his hotel to start packing for his flight back to the UK, but before he leaves he asks Kate to have a drink with him. She declines stating that she has paperwork, but the way she keeps looking at Castle says otherwise. After Colin leaves, Kate tries to talk to Castle about his new attitude and his apparent new girlfriend, to which Castle simply replies that he needs some fun and uncomplicated in his life right now- ouch! Hearing this Kate lets Castle go and calls up Colin to accept his off for a late night drink. With more and more blunders and missteps with communications between are star-crossed lovers, will they ever get together….at this point it is all up in the air and with only a couple of episodes left in the season, my fingers are crossed for a happy ending.
