Arrow Recap: The Odyssey

Tonight’s episode continues from last week with Arrow Moira divulge whether or not she had a connection regarding her late husband’s death as well as any information concerning “The Undertaking” and disappearance of her current husband- Walter. Moira begs Arrow to spare her life for the sake of her children and Oliver unwilling to witness his mother’s terror acquiesces to her pleas. However when he lowers his guard, Moira takes the opportunity to fire her hidden handgun and shoots Arrow aka Oliver in the shoulder.

While, Moira calls for assistance from the building’s security guards, Arrow takes the opening to flea to safer grounds-the back seat of Felicity’s car. Arrow reveals his true identity to Felicity and asks for help. She takes him back to his “hideout” where she encounters Diggle. He helps her bring Oliver in and the pair decide to team up to save their friend’s life.

Meanwhile, Oliver in his semi-unconscious state is having flashbacks of his time spent on the island.

Flashback: Oliver is learning fight-to-fight training with Slade. His new founder mentor, is teaching so he can know how to defend himself so when they launch their attack on the aircraft tower, Oliver can be someone to rely on. They have only once chance to gain access to a supply plane that will be making a stop in ten hours or they will lose the only chance to get off the island.

At the same time Fryers wants Yao to teach his men how to use a bow and if he does what is asked, Fryers will ensure “no harm will come to her.”

The night before the raid on aircraft tower, Oliver and Slade exchange stories and Slade opens up about his partner, the one who tortured Oliver. His partner-Billy Wintergreen, his best friend, godfather to his son Joe, turned his back on him when he got a better offer from Fryers. He can’t understand how a man can turn his back on all that he believed and friend for a man who is everything they fought against. Once the time comes to siege the aircraft tower, Slade provides cover for Oliver to help him gain access to the tower. When Oliver finally enters the tower, he is unable to kill the only man inside. It is ultimately up to Slade to kill the last man standing.

Present Time: Oliver’s heart stops causing Diggle to resort to using a defibrillator, but it malfunctions. Thankfully, Felicity has a way with all things technical and is able to get the machine back up in running just in time to restart Oliver’s heart.

Flashback: Oliver finds a phone and calls Laurel just to hear her voice, but he doesn’t say anything. Slade smashes the phone to ensure no one is tracking the phone. At that moment, the pilot of the supply plane calls in for ETA and uses a confirmation code to make sure that everything is goes as plan.

Luckily for Slade, Oliver recognize the “code” from book “The Odyssey” and supplies him with the correct answer. Once the plane confirms the responding “code”is correct, Slade decides he wants to send a message to Fryers, but Oliver won’t allow him to hurt Yao or leave him behind. Oliver explains that he has been selfish for too long and won’t leave behind the man who saved his life. Slade allows Oliver to leave, but tells him he has three hours to make it back or else he leaves with out him.

Oliver makes it to Fryers camp and finds Yao telling him about Slade and the supply plane that is on its way. Yao tells Oliver that he can’t leave, because of someone but before he can elaborate Fryers and Wintergreen enter the tent that Yao and Oliver are talking in and knock Oliver out. When Oliver wakes to he is in the center of a fight ring, believing he has to fight Yao again, only to be corrected that there will be no fight only an execution. Before Billy could carry out the act, a series of explosions go off providing the perfect distraction for Oliver to escape and the perfect cover for Slade to reveal himself. He goes toe-to-toe with his former partner exacting his revenge which ends with him stabbing Billy in the eye and the supply plane flying overhead leaving before his very eyes.

Oliver and Slade escape and have come to be friends as the know that they have only each other to rely on if they want to survive. Meanwhile, Fryes grants five minutes to Yao to have with his daughter, Shado who is being held captive at the compound and who is being used as leverage to keep Yao in line.

Present Time: Oliver wakes up and thanks Felicity and Diggle for helping him. He also comes to an understanding with Felicity who agrees to help them out until Walter is found, then it is back to being a regular IT girl for her. At the end, Oliver makes a decision that his mother will be off limits and no matter how much Diggle protests, he won’t change his mind. He then goes to see how his mother is doing after he pretends to “learn” about her attack. Oliver then makes a solemn promise to Moira, that he will do anything and everything to ensure the vigilante will never harm her ever again.

But by ceasing all investigations into his mother, will it cause Oliver to miss the obvious and ultimately turn a blind eye to his mother’s nefarious with the “The Undertaking?” Guess we will have to tune in next time to find out!
